Early on July 23, B² Network reported that an attacker had gained unauthorized access to the staking contract’s upgrade authority. These permissions make it possible to modify the contract’s operating logic and directly affect how the system handles user assets. According to Lookonchain, the hacker sold approximately $3.86 million worth of B2 tokens, converted the proceeds into ETH and stablecoins, and then distributed the funds across several addresses.
After detecting the attack, B² Network temporarily suspended staking operations to prevent further losses. The project team also stated that all affected users would be fully reimbursed.
Following the incident, the B2 token came under intense selling pressure and lost approximately 30% over the past 24 hours. At the time of publication, the token was trading at around $0.35.
B² Network was not the only crypto project to face security problems. Over the past 24 hours, Verus, AFX and Balance also reported attacks. Approximately 24.15 million USDC was withdrawn from a bridge operated by AFX Trade.
The funds were then transferred to Ethereum and exchanged for approximately 12,467 ETH. Balance Coin (BLC), meanwhile, lost nearly all of its value following an attack involving its price data mechanism. Some sources estimate the losses at approximately $915,000.
Verus was also targeted in an attack on its bridge connecting the network to Ethereum. The estimated value of the stolen assets was approximately $7.5 million.
Conclusion: According to FORECK.INFO, the attack on B² Network once again demonstrates that administrative privileges in smart contracts remain one of the most vulnerable areas of crypto projects. A series of exploits within a single day could also increase pressure on the affected platforms’ tokens and strengthen demand for more transparent governance mechanisms and better bridge security.
