Grayscale Files for WLD ETF
On July 21, digital asset manager Grayscale submitted an S-1 registration statement to the US Securities and Exchange Commission to establish an ETF tracking WLD. World is a biometric identity project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. If approved, the product would become the first US ETF allowing investors to gain direct exposure to WLD without buying, storing or managing the token on a blockchain.

According to the S-1 filing published on July 20, the proposed product will be called the Grayscale Worldcoin ETF and is expected to list on Nasdaq under the ticker GWLD.
BitGo Bank & Trust will be responsible for custodying and protecting the WLD held by the fund, while CSC Delaware Trust Company has been appointed as trustee. BNY Mellon will serve as the fund administrator and transfer agent, handling administrative procedures, shareholder records and changes in share ownership. The selection of major financial institutions suggests that Grayscale is following an operating model similar to the one used for its previous cryptocurrency investment products.
However, the filing does not yet disclose several important details, including the management fee, initial seed capital, authorised participants or liquidity providers. Following the announcement, WLD gained more than 7% over 24 hours and was trading near $0.38.
Worldcoin Focuses on Human Verification in the AI Era
WLD is an ERC-20 token issued on Ethereum and serves as the native asset of World, the project previously known as Worldcoin. The ecosystem is centred on World ID, a decentralised digital passport designed to verify that each account belongs to a unique human being. Its purpose is to help distinguish real people from bots and AI-powered agents.
Users can complete the verification process through Orb, a spherical device that scans the iris. The biometric information is then used to generate proof of personhood without requiring users to reveal all of their personal data.
However, the use of biometric information has also exposed the project to controversy over privacy, data storage practices and regulatory compliance in several countries.
Grayscale Continues Expanding Its Crypto ETF Portfolio
The Worldcoin ETF filing is the latest step in Grayscale’s strategy to broaden its range of digital asset investment products. The company currently offers around 17 crypto-related exchange-traded products covering assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana and Dogecoin, as well as newer tokens such as Chainlink and Hyperliquid.
Conclusion: SEC approval of the GWLD ETF could expand institutional access to WLD and improve its liquidity, potentially supporting demand for the token and wider adoption of the World ecosystem. However, regulatory concerns surrounding biometric data and user privacy may remain a major risk for both the fund and WLD investors.
