The ecosystem of so-called agentic commerce is gaining momentum. According to estimates from Bain and McKinsey, these systems could account for a significant share of global e-commerce by 2030. At the same time, the risks are also growing — especially mass bot attacks and manipulation through thousands of fake accounts. To address these problems, World, formerly Worldcoin, and Coinbase have launched AgentKit in beta.
Delegating World ID to AI agents
AgentKit works as an interface that allows users with a verified World ID to delegate their digital identity to AI agents. These agents receive the status of “human-backed agents”, meaning they can prove that a real person stands behind their actions.
That is a fundamental difference from ordinary bots, which are typically blocked by platforms. With AgentKit, an agent can access limited resources or protected services without exposing the user’s personal data. Identification is handled cryptographically, without compromising privacy.
Integration with Coinbase’s x402 protocol
Technically, AgentKit is integrated with Coinbase’s x402 protocol, which is already being used for micropayments in AI interactions.
If x402 handles the economic side — in other words, how the agent pays — AgentKit addresses the identity side — who is behind the agent. This combination allows platforms to distinguish real user activity from mass automated requests.
That significantly reduces the risk of a single actor launching thousands of agents to overload services or manipulate systems.
Practical use cases
Potential applications are broad:
-
restaurant and ticket-booking platforms could block scalper bots
-
services with free trial periods could prevent multi-account abuse
-
news and content platforms could protect themselves from bot-driven manipulation
-
financial services could enable safer interactions
AgentKit is already available to developers with a verified World ID in a limited beta version. A full 1.0 release is currently in development.
Overall, the launch of AgentKit reflects a broader shift: the market is moving toward a model in which AI agents become полноценными participants in the digital economy, but only if they are backed by verifiable human identity.
