Van de Poppe expects Bitcoin to break above the $90,000 level in the near term. At the time of writing, the leading cryptocurrency is trading around $92,400, up roughly 2% over the past 24 hours.
On January 3, the United States carried out strikes on Venezuela. The operation reportedly lasted around 30 minutes, after which Maduro was detained and removed from the country.
Bitcoin initially reacted with a modest pullback, but quickly resumed its upward move.
“Markets are usually driven by uncertainty, not by events that have already happened. In this case, it appears that most of the risk was already priced in,” noted crypto analyst Shagun Makins.
He added that Bitcoin’s ability to remain stable amid “geopolitical noise” is more likely to strengthen demand above $90,000 than undermine it.
“The situation may even bring additional capital into the market, as participants interpret it as a sign of strength,” added analyst Tyler Hill.
Insider bets
Researchers at Lookonchain identified suspicious activity on Polymarket. According to their findings, several hours before Maduro’s arrest, three wallets placed bets on the Venezuelan president leaving office.
Their combined profit exceeded $630,000. One wallet reportedly invested $34,000 and received $409,900 in return.
“All three addresses only placed bets related to Venezuela and Maduro and had no history of other trades — a clear sign of insider trading,” Lookonchain stated.
At the same time, a Polymarket trader using the alias Sweetceecks said he earned $80,000 overnight by betting on the Venezuelan president’s removal.
How i made 80,000$ in a single night using @PolymarketBasically ever since the US brought their largest aircraft carrier i knew a strike was 100% going to happen, but i did not know when. So i built a vibe coded bot to track the dominos pizza orders around the pentagon because it is known heavy pizza ordering at weird hours = pentagon people working over timeThe moment the pizza indicator bot spotted an unusal activity i was alerted on my phone and immediately purchased as many “will the us strike venzuala shared on polymarket.GG and thanks for playing!QuoteSweetcheeks (🌲,🌲)
According to him, the decision was prompted by a spike in the so-called “pizza index.” This informal indicator tracks the number of orders from nearby Domino’s Pizza locations around the Pentagon and is often viewed as a proxy for increased U.S. military activity.
