Why it’s happening

Both macro tailwinds and deepening institutional adoption are in play — notably, rising allocations to corporate treasuries.

  • Policy spark: The latest leg higher kicked off after U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to add Bitcoin to U.S. retirement plans.

  • Bold targets get bolder: With the breakout, Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan’s once-lofty call for $200,000 BTC by year-end looks less far-fetched. VanEck’s Matthew Sigel puts a plausible path at $180,000.

  • A maturing market: “Bitcoin has become established in multiple dimensions — technically, institutionally, and politically,” wrote eToro analyst Maximilian Wienke in a note shared with BTC-ECHO. He points to fewer abrupt markdowns and a more resilient price structure as signs of market maturation. “Lower volatility could make Bitcoin more robust to external shocks over the long run.”

  • Institutions keep buying: The institutional footprint has expanded sharply — holdings rose to 1.86 million BTC in August (vs. 1.25 million in October 2024). The launch of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs and clearer regulation have strengthened confidence and sustained capital inflows.
